A Piece of My Heart

The first Monday of December finds me in paradise, engaging in not-so-paradise activities. I am pressing pressing my laptop, January rent has to be made.

The air is balmy, the AC is working and I’m alternating between the patio and a table next to a window indoors, taking in the view of the pool and the white sand and the Indian Ocean beyond the white sand.

🎶when the water so blueeee… 🎶

The view is seeing me through the workday’s motions…

…can you see my screen?’

Please put that on slideshow’

’…you’re speaking on mute

Meeting after meeting until all 7 are done. ‘Please find attached’ after ‘please find attached’ until the only unattached attachments left are the ones that can wait until the 3rd Day of December…

15 minutes to 6.

I have dreams of lying on a net above the ocean and catching the sunset…

Mustard shirt, ‘borrowed’ light cotton shirt over an old bikini top and brown leather sandals… the day’s ‘Rent Chasing Apparel‘ becomes ‘Living in The Moment Apparel‘ as I hop into a tuk-tuk outside the hotel.

We make plans, but the lack of sports mode on a tuk-tuk pities our whimsical planning…

It’s 19 minutes past 6.

I will catch many sunsets by the ocean, but not today’s.

Beauty is everlasting, regardless of the light.

Beauty is layered.

If you pause to look, you’ll be the beholder they spoke of…

There’s crooning from the shaky tuk-tuk speakers. I’m patting my knee to the rhythm of the song. The tuk-tuk driver apologizes as he pulls over.

‘I saw you’re enjoying the music, you’ll love it better once I adjust the speaker…’

Beauty is all around us.

Sometimes beauty is Wizkid and Brent bearing their hearts on the road to Watamu.

We’re here.

The nets are present.

The sun is gone.

The night is having an identity crisis; it’s blue all around.

🎶when the water so blueeee… 🎶

There’s a passion fruit-infused cocktail with too much sugar.

No such thing as too much sweetness in life, I sip into the night in the best of companies… a piece of my heart.
